V70 t5 Manual in need of engine.

Post by smileyboy »

I picked up this car because it was clean and it had a manual transmission. Now I’m trying to source and engine for it. The engine apparently overheated and the seller claimed he had no idea that was the issue. Does anyone have any recommendations or sources for a good used engine?

Don't know if it is practical for you, but try vandsautodismantlers near Sacramento California. Volvo and Saab specialists who part out cars.

You don't say what year the car is as there is a big difference say between a 98 and 99-00.

I believe there may be a couple of Volvo specialist shops in the Denver area. Always worth trying them as some may have an engine stashed or know where to look locally if there are any.

Erie VoVo (NY) usually has engines. Not sure what shipping to you would be, but their quality is very good as is their warranty.

How bad is the head? Maybe a top-end rebuild and rest of the motor refresh would be appropriate. Cost, Availability, your situation,,, Any HPT motor up to 98 is direct replacement. Look for 53,57, 58 in VIN positions 6&7 on donor cars. or engine series B5234T(X) with no VVT solenoids
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
