Oil Pan Stripped, Need Your Help Desperately

Post by mick_jenkins »

Hi,

I really need your help community. I went to get an oil change and I was informed that the oil plug hole on the pan was stripped and the technician told me that the person that last did the oil change probably stripped the treads. In hindsight, it all makes sense because a few months ago the people at Jiffy Lube told me that oil change was free of charge. That should have been a cause for alarm but have recently been quite short on money and was happy to get a free oil change. Anyways, they tried to attempt a thread repair unsuccessfully and resorted to what they call a "pan saver". I am quite worried the pan saver will fall out and I was hoping someone knew of a quick fix without changing out the oil pan. Any help or advice would help. Attached is a picture of the pan saver thing they installed. Thank you so much.

The spark plug threads are the same as the drain plug. FOr that matter a used spark plug threads in further and will likely grab threads and seal but if you do that record the reacton the next time you tke it for an oil change....LOL
Thread repair kits for spark plug holes for that car will also fix its drain plug threads.

I think a competent shop should be able to tap a new thread for you, or fit a helicoil to maintain the factory thread pitch. That temporary rubber plug looks like it would hold but I wouldn't ever be fully confident in it I don't think...
