Bad wires-total mess! Need help!

Post by mschmelzer »

Long story short, a wire that is part of my TCV wire harness shorted out. It's completely burnt and in the process damaged a couple other wires. I need to remove my fuse panel and see under it in order to run a new wire. I have seen brief mention of needing to remove relays and harnesses under the driver kick panel. Has anyone successfully done this on an 850?

You need not to remove fuse or kick panels. One of two TCV wires (blue/brown) connected to crimped or soldered junction inside of engine wiring harness. It is the same wire that feeds injectors and idle air control valve (green). Second TCV wire (grey/black) connected directly to ECU, pin B41.

I figured that out the hard way. Thank you very much for the information though. This wire burnt up a whole bunch of wires. I don't have the time or space to take it all apart and run new wires. On that note, I am trying to sell the car in hopes someone will be able to fix it up. I plan on putting up a separate post but as long as I'm here...I'm in the Chicago area if anyone is interested.

Well, it is a little more serious damages, than just TCV wires... Why not to search the whole harness at junkyard? It's not difficult to replase it.

Not a whole lot of 850s near me at the junk yards. I was just going to order the electrical connector and some wire and build the harness myself. Unfortunately this one wire burnt up several wires which run in the bundle by the wiper motor and to the ecu. I would definitely be up for replacing these but I don't have the space to store a dead car and I do need one for getting to work. Kind of a tough spot. it would be more than just replacing the wire harness for the TCV

On another note...any idea how this wire could possible get enough amperage through it to burn up like that. If its connected to the engine wire harness, wouldn't that mean theres a short in that harness which means an even bigger mess?

You mean TCV wire? It's connected to engine control relay (grey, clamped above the radiator) and NOT protected by fuse. So, in case of a short, it will burn in seconds.
