1995 855, wheel guide pin borken off

The wheel guide pin of front passenger wheel broke off. I could see the remaining inside the wheel hub. Any suggestion on taking it out so that I could put in a new one ?

You don't need it....it's just a guide pin.Don't bother.

It's true you don't need it but I like having them. To get the old stub out I'd heat and cool it several times with a propane torch, spray some good penetrant in there, and go at it tapping with a hammer and screwdriver. Hopefully there is enough of a rough surface for the screwdriver tip to grab?

Other options:

- let it go until you need to replace the rotor
- pull the rotor and drill it out carefully until it just falls out, you could also use reverse thread drill bit and/or a bolt extractor. This one should come out easily that way as there is no tension.

It's probably stuck in the hub and is to hard and small to drill out. Has the mobster's say "forget about it".

I had this problem too. I drilled out the old pin, cleaned up the threads with a tap and installed a new pin. It has been holding up fine so far, 3 years in.

Very detail instruction, thank you. However, I did not get the idea of using tap. Did you use tap to push the remaining of the guide pin out if extractor failed to work ? If there is enough remaining of the pin sticking out of the hub (after the removal of brake rotor) then I would use vice grip to turn it and take it out.

It called chasing the thread. You use a tap the same size and pitch as the existing threads and chase out the left over material from the previous alignment pin. Some people call it following the thread, to emphasize you need to follow the existing thread, not cut new thread.

Perhaps a better term would be Follow and Chase.

So, we assumed that old guide pin was already out ? Then we use tap to clean up the thread ?
