V70R - New engine with existing tuned ECU

Post by ArchieBrown »

Hi,

I'm the proud owner of a 2004 V70R with the spaceball M66. Its got a new B5254T motor after the last one split a cylinder sleeve when with the previous owner.

It's rumoured the existing ECU is tuned to stage 2 and 20 psi but the new engine is stock. The car pulls like a beast which is very cool, but I'd like to make sure I can keep it healthy and happy in the long run.

Taking into account the motor has half the miles of the old one (130K) and I have no supporting mods - should I take the car back to standard tuning and start again or can I safely run the current stage 2 ECU and bolt on the supporting kit?

Thanks as always.

You would need to know the specifics of the stage 2 mods. Most stage 2 mods include internal engine mods such as street cams, followers/lifters upgrades. Unless you know specifically what the ECU is mapped for you best to down grade the ECU back to Stage 0 or Stage 1. Stage 2 often includes engine accessory upgrades such as high boost Turbo chargers, intake and exhaust upgrades. If your going back to a stage 0 engine, downgrade the Turbo or Super Charger for sure.

I suggest you start by having a remap service look at the ECU and determine if the rumours are true.
Also look at the engine accessories and determine if they are OEM or upgrades.

I think your best bet is to pull the entire top end off the damaged engine and transfer it to the replacement engine block, keep everything else as it is. This should get you right back to the state the other fellow had it in ... unless he damaged the head also.
