This is my tranny drain plug right?

Post by jtp »

I’m referring to the wet bolt halfway down the pic.

It’s gotta be the bolt, just not what my other cars looked like and I wanted to play it safe and double check. It’s 14mm and it’s just weird that it looks like it has some structural significance with that arm coming down between the plug and the tranny pan.

Also, based on my reading about gear labels on the shifter display I have a 4 speed and regular Mobil-One Syn ATF works. Does this pic make sense with the 4 speed tranny for 99 models?

Assuming 4 speed automatic tranny, it is the the big bolt on the right side of picture.

5 Speed auto is in the same place too. I would try and clean all that oil off to see where it is coming from. Could be a cam seal leaking down or a drive axle seal.

I see it in the pic, it is like my other P80’s lol. Just for some reason couldn’t wee it when I was down there.

@ Neil ya I’m gonna clean that off and I’m cleaning up the top of the engine around the oil cap. Something up there is leaking and I’m hoping it’s not the cam seal.

Nope. That’s an engine to trans mount bolt. That oil would fool me too

See that skinny one with something like a 21 or 22 mm head? That’s what you are looking for but......

GET THIS RIGHT

There is another bolt the same size that screws up your transmission if you unscrew it

For my 1998 S70, the bolt is 24-mm.
1999 model may or may not be the same...

Ya it was a 24mm. I used to have a 15/16” I used on other cars but I can’t find it so I bit the bullet and got an actual 24 mm wrench.
