Hello;
1998 Volvo Volvo S70 T5-M; I cannot shift into any gears with out (grinding). What should I do first?

How does the clutch feel? Is your brake fluid reservoir at the max line? How many miles on the clutch and what is your driving style?

The clutch padel goes all the way to the floor (no resistance).
The brake fluid is max line (but I think I have a leak). I used to have to add brake fluid every two weeks of driving (M-F) work only.
Normal driving, work (M-F).

+1, Check the fluid in the brake fluid reservoir. Then have the clutch checked.

If the slave cylinder is leaking and can't build pressure, it won't work.

The slave cylinder turns fluid pressure into mechanical motion. It is at the transmission end of the clutch hydraulic line. It may be inside or outside of your clutch housing. Have a helper operate the clutch pedal, while you look for motion at the clutch release lever that goes through the side of the transmission/clutch housing. If there is no movement, your clutch hydraulics are the problem.

What is a slave cylinder and where can I locate it to check for any leaks?
A slave cylinder is a hydraulic cylinder that disengages the clutch when you push down the clutch pedal.
The Clutch Master cylinder is on the firewall. The Clutch Slave Cylinder is on the front edge of the transmission. Just follow the hydraulic lines from the firewall to the transmission.
There is more then one type, if you end up needing one, your need your Chassis number to figure out which one. Your Chassis number is last six digits of your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) with any leading zeros removed. (i.e. 000123 = 123). You can find your Vin number on the plate in the corner of the windshield or on your title.
