Silent alarm tripped, can't shut it off

Post by benpineapple »

Last summer I replaced the driver's door lock actuator (it would lock, but couldn't power unlock), ever since i replaced the actuator, unlocking the door with the key sets off the silent alarm. So, I've been exclusively using my fob to lock/unlock my car. When the silent alarm gets tripped, I hit lock, then unlock on the fob, which shuts the alarm off.

When the silent alarm (aka burglar alarm I think) gets tripped, ignition does not work. So, I'm at work right now, accidentally unlocked my car with my key, set off the silent alarm, and my fob isn't working. Had to get back to work, so I disconnected the battery (so the blinkers wouldn't kill the battery). Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery didn't make the alarm stop.

Does anyone know of a way to shut off the silent alarm, when the fob and the door lock isn't working? Also, the lock button on the master switch isn't working with the alarm tripped. https://www.justanswer.com/Volvo/35y5v- ... o-S70.html That page has a note about splicing a wire at the "keyless module" and touching it to a ground. I don't know what the keyless module looks like though, google isn't helping.

Replaced the fob battery last week, but when I did, the holder wasn't really doing a good job keeping it in, I think maybe my fob isn't working because of poor connections. I'm planning on rummaging up a piece of scrap wire to help the connections. Though, I opened the fob, and was adjusting the battery on the contacts, and applying more pressure, and it still wasn't working.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Got it solved, thankfully didn't have to pull the kick panel.

Issue was a poor connection in the fob, appears a small piece of plastic that holds the +pos contacts snug, is broken. Pulled the fob apart, removed the piece plastic that normally holds the battery, and held it together with my hands while pressing the lock/unlock buttons. Time to get a new fob housing.

That is weird. I know sometimes when connection the battery it can confuse the system and on my 00 V70 base it sets the hazard blinkers off (the alarm doesn't work). I think I had to put the key in the ignition and switch on to II and then back of and remove the key to reset. Maybe it only does that on the 99-00 with the chipped keys (yes I know Europe had chipped keys earlier than 99) and a antenna ring?

Normally locking and unlocking the drivers door manually resets the system so not sure what is going on there. Glad you found a solution.

Neil.

On my 98, if I accidentally set off the alarm, I can either lock and unlock the door with the key, or put key in ignition and turn to run. I don't have a key fob. I'm guessing something isn't wired in the door correctly.

There is no silent alarm in these cars. Chances are, your alarm horn is broken.
