1988 740 GLE A/T problem Topic is solved

My 740 (B230F) auto transmission is having some problems. If I accelerate raipidly to highway speed, it sometimes skips from 1st gear to third at 50 km/h. There's no apparent malfunction here, just that the car loses acceleration and takes a while to realize that it needs to be in 2nd gear (when I give it more gas). Would changing the transmission fluid help, or is this something I'll have to live with in the absence of today's sophisticated car computers?
