Took my volvo in for an alignment and was told a part in the rear suspension was broken preventing correct rear alignment. I took a look and some sort of metal bushing/spacer is cracked all the way through on the passenger side (pic attached doesn't show the crack too well). Anyone know what part this is and whats involved in replacing it?
I also noticed i don't have a anti-sway bar in the rear, was that an option my wagon didn't get or has my rear anti-sway bar come off at some point?

The broken part is called a trailing arm bushing. There is also a trailing arm end link, likely shot as well. For both. of them there is one on each side, special L and R parts for the bushing. Aftermarket ones may not last very long.
Most pre-96 wagons shipped without a sway bar. Definitely didn't fall off! Adding a stock one is a nice upgrade, check the junkyards or parts cars. There are different thickness bars if you really want to shop around, but any is better than none.

Thanks! Ive been searching and searching for that part and all i was able to find was the end-links! Ya now that ive gave the rearend a good look theres no way the anti-sway bar fell off but it actually looks like a anti-sway bar was there, the previous owner was a volvo collector and must have kept it lol. Guess its time for a trip to the scrapyard!erikv11 wrote: 25 Mar 2018, 15:44 The broken part is called a trailing arm bushing. There is also a trailing arm end link, likely shot as well. Just a note. The rear toe is set with the bushings and you will usually need an alignment when you change them. You need to find an alignment shop that actually knows what they are doing and they need to set the rear toe in first (before the front) or they will just chase their tails - so to speak.

I believe, along with the previous users, that is the trailing arm bushing. There is a left and a right one. If you are replacing those, you should also replace the trailing arm (delta) links. These are not side specific. Lemforder is the recommended brand, but they are getting hard to find.
As Ozark Lee stated, you need a shop that knows what they are doing when they go to realign the rear. Good news is, from what I've read, once the rear end is aligned, it should not need realigned for a very long time (if ever).
