1998 V70 T5 Manual - $2000 - Mtn View, CA

Post by 1337 »

I have a 1998 Volvo V70 T5 with a manual transmission. The car has 214000 miles on it. I am the second owner, and I bought the car in April 2016. The previous owner bought the car new at the Volvo dealer in Palo Alto, CA, and it spent its whole life in California. I have a 2-inch thick stack of service records from the previous owner, and I've added to that stack.

Here are some of the maintenance items that I've taken care of within the last couple of years:
- CV boots
- shocks (front and rear)
- mass airflow sensor (the OEM Bosch one, not a cheap one)
- brakes (OEM pads and coated rotors)
- spark plugs
- tires

I also have some replacement parts that I haven't gotten around to installing, including:
- new battery cable
- new engine mounts (OEM replacement parts)

Here are some issues that it has:
- timing belt last changed in 2010. (I believe the official Volvo timing belt interval is 10 years, but some people like to change it more often.)
- cruise control stopped working (I tried to debug it, and I fixed it for a while, but then it stopped working again)
- interior plastic is 20 years old. It looks good in pictures, but in person it's cracked here and there.
- the paint is flaking on the hood and roof (from the California sun. On the flip side, the car is rust-free.)
- A/C clutch sometimes stops working. (I think the compressor is fine, and the RobertDIY YouTube channel explains how to fix the A/C clutch without replacing the compressor.)
- Power door locks can be temperamental (I did the copper wire fix, and that worked for a while, but now the lock actuators don't always work.)
- The turbo works great (whoosh!), but under heavy acceleration, it sometimes throws a wastegate code (P0243)

Other than than the issues mentioned above, the electronics are mostly in good shape. The power windows, power mirrors, radio, and gauge cluster are all in good shape. The leather on the interior doesn't have any tears.

I really like this car. My first car was a 2000 Volvo V70 GLT automatic, which my parents gave me. The car I have now (the manual wagon version) the car what I wanted as a teenager (yeah, I was weird). Now, I've had it for a couple years, and I've enjoyed driving it and working on it. When I got the car, I was finishing up grad school and I was just starting a company. Now, my company has taken off, and I don't really have time for wrenching. I just leased a 2018 VW Golf (turbo w/ manual transmission), and I'm enjoying that now.

I'm hoping this car can go to an other Volvo enthusiast. I bought it for $2000 in 2016, and I've put $2000 into it. I'm asking $2000 for the car now.

The car is at my office in Mountain View, CA.

Feel free to send me an email (see email address above) if you have questions or would like to look at the car. Also, if you're out of state, I'd be happy to help coordinate shipping.

Yeah, I like these CA cars anyway, but this one is a gem at a good price. Maybe I should move back.
