Fuel Door Fell Off

Post by krowten »

Hello,
I have a 2001 XC70 and I went to get gas today and the fuel door fell off when I opened it. It looks like the black plastic piece that holds the door on broke. I see places that sell the fuel door hinge (I assume that is what I need?), but I don't see how to pull the old one off and put the new one one. Can anyone tell me how to do it or should I just have the dealer do it?

Thanks.

Thanks.

So, is there another doc that explains how to get the Side panel in the cargo compartment off? Or is it pretty self explanatory?

I didn't upload that because it's pretty self-explanatory. If you do however get stuck let me know and I'll search it out and either upload it or send it to you by email.

The PDF instructions don't say anything about changing the plastic hinge holder that mount to the body of the car. Does anyone have any info on replacing that component?

Thanks

I believe that the new door comes with that piece. Once you look at it, it should be self explantory. Did you already get the door piece?

Not yet, I just ordered the plastic piece this morning. I am hoping that it just snaps into the body instead of being screwed in from the back side.

Just saw your most recent post. BTDT.

The new gas door comes with the hinge attached.

To remove the old hinge: Look at where the hinge is attached to the body. You'll see the flush ends of pins where, intuitively, screws should be. Push those pins into the body and remove the old hinge.

To mount your new hinge: Hold the door up to the body with the hinge open. Line up the pins with the holes and gently push the pins in flush with the surrounding plastic. This mushrooms out the surrounding plastic to hold the hinge on. You're done!

Please let us know how it worked out for you.

Thanks for the great follow-up, Steely. I've never done one of these so I wasn't sure about the pins.
