Active bi-xenon headlights replace repair 2011 xc70

Post by babybluebug »

After replacing a xenon headlight bulb this winter, it appears that water got in the headlamp module and I am getting a headlight service light. Headlight still works but dealership says need to replace headlight control unit, ballast, and possibly entire headlamp assembly. Says it will cost at least $1200 and maybe more. Surprisingly, the head light is still working. This car has the high end xenon lights.

The headlight module (case) seems okay but i may need to purchase a ballast & control unit. Has anyone done this or had any experience with these headlights? Thanks.

Usually the nearside headlamp suffers with an ingress of water on the ballast box sat neatly under the lamp fitting. If you remove it and take the case off carefully, you can clean the corrosion off the connectors and using a non aggressive grease, (silicon grease or Vaseline) to coat the contacts, all should be well.
