2.4i 5 cylinder idle rough
2.4i 5 cylinder idle rough
Are 2.4i inline 5 known to be more rough idling than other 4s? My daughters my2010 doesn't throw codes and runs excellent but it's always seemed to idle rough, kinda like a chug chug missing like symptom only at idle. When going thru revs it smooths out. I have no reference as this is the only Volvo I've driven. Corollas, and all other makes are quieter. Nature of the beast?

That chug chug may well be a fault with the ignition or injection or even in the related wires. Do this test wither by unplugging the coils or by unplugging the injectors and see if the misfire goes away
Also look at the belts (pull on the side cover of the timing belt to see inside) and look with a flash light at both tensioners: are they steady or are they shaking?
There may be other issues such as faulty (broken) compression rings, faulty valve, leaking head gasket who knows
May as well test the pcv while there (youtube)
As for the engine, when the injectors are perfectly clean and the piston rings move freely, it should be quite smooth from inside the cabin
