I am beyond frusterated...
I recently had the battery replaced in my 98 Volvo S70 - subsequently my radio then asked for a CODE. MY husband not knowing the CODE attempted guesses 3 times and the radio magically locked him out.
I have the code and have tried everything that I have seen suggested anywhere online & nothing works - HELP!!!
I have disconnected the battery overnight
I have removed the radio fuses overnight
I have placed my key in the I position while the radio was on overnight
I have placed my key in the I position while the radio was off overnight
I have left the radio on while I drove continuously for 4 hours
I left the radio off while I drove continuously for 4 hours
I left the radio turned off for a period of 30 hours
I removed the radio from the car one evening & replaced it the next
Nothing I have tried works - I am ready to rip the radio out and throw it away.
Any ideas?

Radio on or off.
Key in position 1 (first on position, but do not turn on the car)
Leave for over 2 hours, go away, have lunch or whatever
When you come back it should say "code" if not, you're either not doing this right or your radio is fried for some reason as you seem to have done the right thing (once).
Position 1 means power to the radio, it should say "off" not nothing
(I just did one a couple of days ago)

It sounds like you've done everything right and it should go back to the code setting. Try this trick.
With the radio off, disconnect the battery for a few minutes and then reconnect it.
Turn the key to position I or II.
Press and Hold preset button 6.
While still holding button 6, Press and Hold the power button.
After a few seconds, the radio should actually turn on and act like normal. Sadly, this will only last for 3 minutes at which point it should prompt you for your code again.
At that point you should, of course, enter your code.

Where did you come up with that one?Ozark Lee wrote:It sounds like you've done everything right and it should go back to the code setting. Try this trick.

Since I purchased a new radio on eBay I have been on a quest to figure out the algorithm to create the security code. I actually went to the local dealer yesterday and got the correct code for my radio (3663) but I felt defeated.
I think the algorithm involves the zip code for the Meadowlands (07073) and some iteration of the name Hoffa but I have yet to crack it.
After hours on the internet I found a site on the internet that revealed the power on/function 6 and thought that I had brought nirvana to all Volvo owners - Alas, It only lasted 3 minutes.
