2002 V70 locking issues
2002 V70 locking issues
I recently purchased a 2002 V70 from a private party. The seller said that the driver side rear door lock mechanism didn't work but I didn't think it would be a big deal. However after getting it home, I found that the passenger door mechanism doesn't work either. The tailgate lock is stuck in the unlocked position, meaning I cannot lock it for security, and unlike my '95 850 wagon, there is no key hole to lock it manually. I checked youtube and DIY Robert showed a method to take the chip out of the lock motor. So I took the tailgate motor apart and found that apparently Volvo deleted the aforementioned chip sometime before 2002. So does anybody have any ideas out there? Thanks!
As far as I can tell my rear locks are all working on my 2002, v70.
Now I'm going to be nervous.
I also have an identical 2002, v70 for parts.
Will be selling parts after I figure out what's wrong with my daily driver.

I have a 2001 V70 and it does have a key lock/unlock for the rear tailgate, it's somewhat hidden above the license plate and there's a rubber plug covering the key lock. Look up under the license plate over hang and see is you see the rubber plug to the right. Hopefully the 2002 model year also has the same tailgate key lock.roy1956 wrote: ↑09 Jun 2018, 11:58 I recently purchased a 2002 V70 from a private party. One other problem I had with the rear tailgate was the wiring in the upper left hinge area, there were about a half dozen wires that were broken and causing numerous problems. One problem from the broken wires was the tailgate lock wouldn't lock/unlock. You might want to check the tailgate wires in the left hinge area. They tend to break from flexing back and forth with the tailgate opening and closing.
