Front end spring/strut opinions

Post by Clemens »

After putting brandnew sport nivomats on the back of my 96 R it is time for the front end. The Rs are lowered by 22 mm (7/8") compared to stock and came with sachs sport struts together with pretty stiff sway bars.

Now, after 22yrs and 200.000 mls the front end is a bit stiff and bumpy on rough roads. All suspension components up front are slightly worn, but in decent shape, nothing broken or loose.

Now, I'd like to have the comfiest ride while maintaining the lowered R ride height, or possibly go lower. But i'd choose comfort on rough roads over cornering. I read dozens of forum posts, probably hundreds, and from what i've read there are a few optiond that might suit:

- R springs and Sachs Sport struts (stock R suspension)
- R Springs and Sachs standard struts (the struts used in base 850ies)
- H&R -35mm springs and Bilstein B4 (called touring in the US, I think)
- H&R -35 and Sachs standard struts

I want to hear opinions or what you've experienced.

Thanks,
Clemens
