Alternator insanity (Wrong part -2004, 2005- part break)

My alternator light never went on, nor did I get a warning in the message center that it was only charging 13 - 13.2 amps with all accessories off on an alternator that was less than 5 months old on my 2005 V70R. I believed that was the reason why after a highway run or an hour or so in traffic, it wouldn't start when hot. I changed it again and after installing the new one, its charging at 14.0- 14.3 amps. Sounds good, right, but then I got POWER SYSTEM SERVICE URGENT in the message center. I changed it out again, replaced it with another one and still have the same message... and its charging fine. I cleaned ALL the grounds, and cant clear the message or battery symbol from the dash. When it wasn't charging, it didn't warn me, and now that it is, it wont stop warning me. Anyone got an idea. Thanks.

What about the battery? Maybe it's showing age. My V70 sometimes got "Low Voltage" fault due to battery being 7 years old and tired.

2005 and later need to have the the correct alternator with the LIN communicating voltage regulator or you get the message. The alternator charges but the ECM gets no response and that message shows. The alternators are identical between the 04 and older and 05 and newer.

Post up your part numbers so we can close this one out. P2 are both more reliable and fussier about electronic things

I assume you've got a multimeter. Also just a small correction, you are measuring voltage, not amps.

Well, the first amp at 13.0v was faulty. It is good now to test your battery as it can get worn by a faulty alternator: it should have at least 12.4v, at best 12.6-12.7v 30 minutes after driving and with all lights off (including trunk lights).

Now, as for the POWER SYSTEM message, is it there continuously or intermittently? Does it pop up only when the engine has fully warmed up? www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KEg95bWM_I Worth mentioning, the battery was also still charging fine with the message.
