Serpentine belt for a 1998 V90, will not fit

Post by Kkincaid »

Bought a serpentine belt for my v90 from Auto Zone, and tried for a good three hours to put it on to no avail (it was too small). Thought maybe I got the wrong one so I double checked with Auto Zone, also checked with Volvo, and Advanced Auto Parts. All said it was a 69 inch belt. Won’t go on. Thought maybe I rounted it wrong. Nope was sent the route by Volvo and was correct.

Am I missing something??

Thanks lummert, but I’ve seen the post and have it routed that way. When I route it that way the belt comes about a 1/2 inch short. Any other thoughts?

It was pulled back and I even inserted a screw to keep the tension off the belt. I’m going to try a larger belt that is 70.5 inches instead of the 69.0 that I have. I don’t know what else to do. I appreciate your help and would gladly hear any other suggestions you might have.

I just went through my hand written service Log I keep on my '96 960. Actually I keep a service log on each car in my small fleet. Back in the spring I replaced the serpentine belt on the '96 960. The brand and part number was :

Contitect 6PK1642

Believe it came from FCP, or EEUROPARTS.COM.

Way back when when I had a '92 & '94 960's the size was smaller. And I believe the difference was due to a different sized tensioner pulley between the early and later models. The part number listed above was a perfect fit for the '96..
