Need to find a compatible transmission 1998 S70 T5 auto
I need to get a used automatic transmission to rebuild for my 1998 S70 T5. Is the final drive the only difference between the turbo and non-turbo? Should I just rebuild the one in my car instead of hunting another one down? It is still working right now, but it has a lot of miles and I would rather it not just die one day. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Like all things it depends.
If you need the car as a daily driver then having the car down for a significant time while the trans is re-built is a tough decision.
However, having your current trans refreshed by a re-build at least you know it still works and is a good starting point.
Buying a used transmission you are realistically buying an unknown 20 year old trans with no history of maintenance. If you have to pay someone else to fit the trans then the biggest cost is the labor costs and the warranty is limited.
As you live on the West Coast, you could consider a used transmission (no idea on shipping costs) from Erie Vo-Vo in NY area. The guarantee all their used parts, but again the part is warranted and not the labor. While I know they make every effort to ensure you get a good part, there is no real guarantee with a used part.
Some on MVS will say if the trans is still working fine, then they can do a huge mileage but the key is maintenance with regular oil changes to the trans with a good quality oil.
I have a spare used 5 speed auto trans in my garage for my 2000 V70R that came from PnP for a low price and from a 2000 V70R but is an unknown quantity. If I were to need it I would have it re-built first as I would have to have it fitted by someone else as I don't have the facilities to do so myself and that is a 10 hour labor job. At the dealer that would be about $1600 CDN.
If you can find a good local transmission shop who will do the whole job, removal, rebuild and re-fit with a warranty then that may be the best package as they should hopefully warrant the labor cost too as they did all the work so worth considering.

I guess I should have explained that if I got a used one I would rebuild it myself before putting it in the car. I do have another car I can use, so if it has to be down for a bit that is not that big of an issue. I am starting to think now of doing something crazy custom and put a custom built engine and trans in the car. I need to figure out if the 6 speed auto (TF80) from the later cars will fit in the engine bay now. I have a unique skillset (electronics, programming, and automotive knowledge) that should help with this. I guess go big, or go home.
