Whining/groaning V70, where to look next?

First off. Here's a recording. It's not perfect you can still hear a groaning/whining in the background. The noise is the same when in drive or reverse. It's been the same as far as I remember since I bought the car 50' km ago.

I'm interested in of anyone recognizes the sound or has a good idea of what to check and how.

Belts and tensioner replaced. AC clutch bearing is going bad but as far as I can tell it's the same when the compressor is engaged. I've got a new bearing and will replace it though. Ideas? Servo pump? Turbo (shouldn't perfectly follow the engine though should it, especially when letting go?)? The renowned filter in the granny causing starved and groaning pump? Shifts perfectly though and fluid has been replaced completely then partly a few more times recently.

Kinda sounds like the P/S pump. Our 05 S80 is doing the same thing. A P/S fluid flush helped but didn't completely eliminate it.

1. Lift the hood.
2. Take a clean transmission funnel, stick it in your ear.
3. Pinpoint where the sound is coming from.

Hmm. I wonder If I threw my funnel away after using it last time or if i cleaned it out..

Last time I tried with a tube and no helper to rev the car for me. No luck then. Guess it's time to try again

I did flush the PS fluid when I bought the car but no change. I wouldn't mind it being the PS pump though since it's easy to replace

The clutch bearing is loaded with the AC clutch both engaged or disengaged so the noise might not change.

A piece of hose will work as a stethoscope quite well. It makes the neighbors talk about your , too

It's my understanding that the freewheel bearing is standing still with the clutch engaged since the pulley wheel doesn't spin on the compressor axle then.

It's due for replacement regardless. I've even got the bearing. I just haven't had time for it. Any day now..

You are right. Bearing not turning on engaged clutch, spinning on disengaged clutch.
