Hey guys,
I been searching the forums and I cant get straight answer on to this question.
What boost level can the stock ECU handle on 1997 S70 T5? I have replaced my turbo with Kinugawa 9 turbine blade unit (highly recommended for auto setups) and installed 0.8bar actuator, however i find it that under load during the hard acceleration the car is starting to miss.
I have replaced things like the spark plugs, leads, dizzy cap and the rotor, air/fuel filters but still getting that issue.... so I'm thinking the ECU perhaps doesn't have maps to support more than the standard boost levels. So what to check what boost level are you running on the stock ECU and what it can support.
Thanks
Whats boost level can the ECU support on 1997 S70 T5

What do you mean by actuator, is that the same as a TCU (Turbo control unit)?
If not, are you using the standard Volvo TCU? If so, thay are only good to about 12-14psi max and they start fluttering which will cause boost variability. You may have to upgrade that to one like IPD or ARD sells.
Also, if you are running a standard tune in the ECU you may well have to have the software upgraded to work with the mechanical upgrades.
Neil.

As Erik said the wastegate actuator ... so its not the boost control valves that sets the pressure but the actuator itself .. it basically has stiffer springs so keeps the wastegate closed for longer thus the increase of the boost... I might actually hook a boost gauge to see what the actual boost pressure going to the engine ...
However it would be good to know what level of pressure can the stock ECU support....
Thanks

If it’s the same engine management as a USA 1997 T5, then the answer is 18psi or more. But I have a feeling that it’s not, because it’s a S70 not an 850. In 97 we were still getting 850 cars.
I had 18 happening with a manual boost controller on my 1997 850 T5.
