New Person requests info on Engine Fault warning light

Post by Matt T5 »

Hi just bought my first Volvo - an 850 T5 estate (1994) and have only owned it for 4 days after which the 'fault in the engine electronic system' light came on on the dash. Could this have anything to do with the fact that the first thing I did when I filled her up with petrol was add STP injector cleaner? It says on the bottle that it is safe for catalytic converters etc. I only added as much as was recommended. The car has full service history but is high miles 130k. It still drives perfectly, but has me worried about a potential costly Volvo visit. Can anyone give me any advice on this predicament? I would be very grateful...
Also, do K&N replacement elements work well? Are they worth the cost? Any performance gain? Thanks in advance :!:

Doubtful the additive would trigger any lights.

Search this forum on K&N filters... I've written a few sentences on them.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

Go by AutoZone and they will pull the codes for free. Some of the other threads have links to some of the codes that the PCM can store. It may be something simple as a misfire on cyl 1 and when you check the plug and wires you may find that you have worn plugs... or it can be more complicated and expensive.

Good luck,
