My 1993 Volvo 850 non-turbo failed the California emissions test:
Visual inspection passed.
Emissions test passed.
Functional (evap) test Failed.
The technician pinched off the hose just before the charcoal canister and put pressure into the fuel tank. It didn't hold enough pressure to pass. Where are the evap system weak points between the canister and the tank that could leak pressure? The canister is in front of the left fender and the main hose runs across the front and along the right side to the tank.
I noticed that the hose end that technician pinched off with pliers seems rather hard so I'm wondering if it was not completely pinched off and may have affected the test.
Thanks
Note:The hose above the fuel tank was replaced 4 years ago after failing the test.

No replies? I guess that since most 850s have now been crushed, nobody is left here to remember how to fix them?
I found a split hose connecting to the front of the rollover valve located between the fender and the fuel filter at the rear right side of the car. It's a 4" rubber piece. I bought part 3501350 from the Volvo stealership for $14. It passed the evap test.
