Pretty standard leak...started small about 6 months ago, and has progressed to something louder, but still minor. But it's starting to get cold in CT and I suspect that the cold temps of winter will make it louder yet.
My (independent) but Volvo-specialized mechanic warned me today that the V6 clearance is not good, and that in the process of removing the exhaust manifold with the very real possibility of breaking a stud, may necessitate the removal of the head to complete the job. I can see this developing (maybe) into an expensive fix.
Is there any kind of stuff that I might squeeze into the leak that could seal it against the pressure? I offered to anoint the nuts with penetrating oil for a week before the job, but he said don't bother.
Somehow I think that God intended these old Volvos to come w/ 4 cylinder mills only!
Thx

Are you sure the leak is from the manifold and not the manifold to downpipe flange joint?
I know of nothing that you could squeeze in to the manifold joint. All sealing compounds are intended to be tightened in with the gasket.
Bill.
