I just got an email from a Ugandan mechanic looking for info on radio codes. I helped him best I could: Volvo web site and suggested calling the dealer, if there is one in Uganda.

The Internet sure shrinks this planet of ours.

Wasn't there a pay per use site that provided this info? Don't have a record of it though.

I emailed Volvo for a radio code with the serial number on the radio and they were able to email me back with the info. Very fast and courteous customer service, I must say!

If one has a Volvo Radio made by Philips, one can get the radio code from the radio serial number here.
I could not test it because the only spare Volvo radio I have was made by Mitsubishi Electric.

Did Philips ever make radios for Volvo?

I don't know, but as far as I know all P80 radios, at least, are Mitsubishi.

I used the form on US Volvo website to get the radio code for the S40, no charge.
