VADIS

Post by Ozark Lee »

I bought my VADIS DVD and I am now officially dangerous. I know it was an authentic VADIS disk because the Sharpie ink that said Volvo on the face of the TDK disc was Volvo blue.

There appears to be a steep learning curve, but I'm just now muddling through. Tips from VADIS pros are certainly welcome.

Have fun! I had to learn trial and error. If you download a file like Win2PDF (free...don't remember the download location, so do a google search), you can print to a PDF file and upload it or send it to someone. If only wanting to copy one view you can push the "print screen" button and then paste into a graphics program to get a jpg file. Don't count on VADIS to give you much diagnosis for a certain problem. It is good for "how-to's" and part numbers.

Make sure on the configuration part, you select all of the information types by holding the ctrl button and clicking on all of them.

I'd say it's awesome for diagnostics, at least on the 850's w/ the underhood readout where you can match the code exactly. It has an explanation and troubleshooting for every single code.

Good point about the 850 built in diagnostic box code. For newer cars it's not that good for that... That's why these boards are so useful!

Where are the copies of these being sold?

I purchased a CD of information for my Ford F150 when I got it on ebay for $5.00 or some pittance.. The thing wouldn't install on winXP so I had to just parse the database info to get anything out of it. And then it was vague at best and applied to a large range of vehicles, about like reading a Chilton's except with the added annoyance of being digitized.

For the earlier cars there is little to no diagnostic. For the later vehicles the diagnostic is there but is still only so good until you spend a lot more money and get a VCT 2000 and the cables to run it. Once you've spent that money and are ready to go it is still a pretty steep learning curve figuring out how to do some of the simpler things like read and clear fault codes. One of the things that it does do that is really hip, slick, and cool is in reading the live data. You can plot all of this stuff on the built in osillioscope. That is a neat function that I have used in the past to diagnose faulty cats and O2 sensors. For the most part though, it is a glorified parts fish if you do not get the VCT 2000 hardware.

Yep Bill,

I got mine sent to me from the U.K by a guy called Jamie for GBP 4.00

The general Volvo parts and maintenance information etc. was contained on one DVD and the wiring diagram on another DVD.

Looks like the Yankee Doodles might have been nipped in the wallet a bit.
There are only two types of car owners - those who own Volvos and those who wish they did.
