Two Electrical Questions

Post by a3inverter »

Greetings all,

2 Questions for you related to electrical topics for my 2006 V70.

1. I'm thinking about retrofitting the rear electrical socket from a salvage yard car into mine which doesn't have one. Do I simply need to grab the interior body trim panel, the socket itself and the harness it comes with or is this a more involved process?

2. Is there a good constant 12v source that I might use to hardwire some accessories (dash-cam, iPhone) into? The 2 electrical sockets accessible from the drivers seat (the one in the dash and the one at the rear of the console) appear to be switched 12v.

At about 7k miles so far, really enjoying the wagon.

Thanks!

1. It should be plug and play. You might need to add a fuse in the right place.

2. I would really suggest using a source that turns off with the ignition so you can leave the car parked without draining the battery unless you've got some really specific requirements for the dash cam when parked. If that is the case I would wire a separate 12V line that you can turn on with a manual switch for those use cases and run the ignition switched source the rest of the time.
A constant 12V line should be available somewhere by the front fuse box accessible with the door open.

Excellent and good recommendation on the manual switch. Thanks Rattnalle!
