2012 XC60 with warning message of transmission malfunction
2012 XC60 with warning message of transmission malfunction
My Volvo XC60 2012 started to show a warning message of automatic drive gearbox malfunction without any relevant symptom / problem that could indicate some problem in the gearbox. Checking the failures codes with VIDA I found the code 284900 – shift fork A stuck indicating that gear shift fork 1 is blocked and does not move on request. This car is fitted with the famous MPS6 (powershift) drive gearbox that is known to be very problematic often presenting issues like shifts jerky, slippage, etc, however none of these symptoms I have noticed on my car. I bought this car used with more than 90k km (it has around 96k today) and could not find any information if the transmission oil has ever been changed. I noticed that when the car is cold the gearbox works fine but after 15 min running the warning message pops up again and when the car is stopped it doesn’t move reverse at a first moment and then it also stop to move forward (although it is still possible to change the shift lever position to P,R,N & D). I’ve learnt from manuals that transmission control module may be the cause of this reaction as a preventive measure to protect the gearbox. I’d like to know if someone has already experienced a similar problem that could help me to understand how critical is this problem to be fixed? Will it be necessary to overall the whole gearbox or only the TCM? Would it be worthwhile doing an oil flushing, change the oil charge and filter to see if this problem might be related to some problem related to oil degradation? Thanks in advance for you help and please apologize the English mistakes… my natural language is Portuguese that is far different from English
! Happy new year !

I'm not sure you will get much help as these are newer models. Maybe try asking on a Swedish forum in english, they will know more about these later cars here's on Swedish Volvo site https://www.jagrullar.se/forum/
