2006 s40 vent under hood

2006 s40 vent under hood

on the right side of the underside of the hood there is a tube that goes from the radiator area to the topnpf the battery cover..What is it. I've searched google, this forum and other forums and can't find an answer.. My guess is its to heat up the batteryin the winter??

Positive ventilation.

Flooded lead acid batteries produce Hydrogen gas which is very flammable and yields explosive mixtures with air and oxygen. Without ventilation the battery box would trap the Hydrogen next to a potential ignition source.

Wow.. I've never seen or heard of that before. I guess its just volvo that does that
