What do you think? [760 turbo]
My 1988 760 wagon has 298,000 miles and runs good except for the fact that it needs a new head gasket and the rear main seal leaks. Other than that, this car has always been very dependable and runs good. I just bought an 850 wagon. So... I have been struggling to sell this and am down to $1000 on Auto Trader. Should I just part it out instead? I just can't see going lower. It is like giving it away. What do you think? http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=209399546

I think it's hard to sell the car for anything more, unless the prospective customer has a certain attachment to 740s and buy it with the intent of restoring.
While I can relate to the amount of money you spent upkeeping that car, I finally had to accept that none of the repair work done on my 740 went into increasing the monetary value of that car - it all goes into the mechanic's pocket for their time and parts used. However, I was fortunate that as a longtime customer of two years, they sold me a 960 and deterred me from further repairs.
If you can dismantle the parts yourself and have space to park a retired vehicle, you can probably make more profit parting out that car..

Thanks Peter... I'll give that some thought. Surprisingly, my daughter took it to work today because she got her car stuck on a dirt road and I am out of town. She will like it over her car I am sure. She once asked what the repairs would cost. hmmm..... If it don't sell soon.... I'll start taking it apart.
850 turbo wagon, ahhh, so much nicer than the trusty 760 turbo wagon.... which was sooo much nicer than the 1977 v-6 wagon..... and the 1974 164 4 door......
