Hi, me again. Saw a 1996 Limited Edition 850R, 101K, one owner dealer maintained. This thing is ticket me red with suede insets in the seats along with every other option available. Lady is asking $8,500. Anyone know about this limited edition thing? Looks like a better car than the chipped 850 turbo I am still considering.

I believe there was no such thing as a Limited Edition 850R. The R's were already limited to a certain number shipped here.
There was a (rare) factory 'platinum' 850 -- but that was a 850 T5.

She is in the ballpark with a price of $8500. You can verify with www.kbb.com and see what private sales are going for in your area. Also ask to see the service records, they will should show general servicing plus anything major. Like Mathew said about the R - it is a limited edition just because they didn't build that many of them.

So it is a limited edition just by the sheer fact that they didn't release or ship many, but not really a big deal like a 75th anniversary edition. Essentially it's a full turbo with every option available that year.
I checked kbb and nadaguides and for private sale she is $500 under, a dealer, which is where it is on consignment it is actually about $3K under. This would come with a guarentee of an inspection sticker and 3K, 3month warranty from the dealer so it sounds like a good deal even if she won't budge from the $8.5K. The car is clean with the exception of a scrape on the bottom of the back bumper exposing black.

Wagon?
Check wheels... if its the original 17-inch 'titans,' look for cracks. They were actually recalled as a result of a class-action suit vs. Volvo. The wheels were weak. And then there's the regular assortment of 850 stuff to look for like making sure the service records show a changed T belt.
If its a wagon, I'd be hard-pressed not to buy it if I were you. For a brief time, the 850R was the fastest FWD car around, according to enthusiast sites.
Brutal quickness plus the usability of a wagon... mmmmmmmmm.

This car ended up needing an ABS modulator and possibly front end work in addition to tires. Was going to be 1-2K for repairs and the owner was going to fix it and jack the price up so I walked away. Ended up with a 95 Turbo with all the same options but silver. No power passenger seat in the silver bullett, but it does have a 6 CD changer.
My last volvo was a wagon and I didn't like not having a trunk so I stayed away from the wagons, I wanted a nice Sedan which is what I got. My friend said it's a sleeper, looks like a sedan but has plenty of giddy up! I'm pleased with my choice.
