Volvo 940 Brake Light Switch

Post by falconstar16 »

Hello

The brake lights on my Volvo have been out for a little while and I'm trying to pinpoint the issue.
I think I've narrowed it down to be the brake light switch and I was wondering if anyone has any diagrams of the switch and the brake pedal so I can take it out of my car and test it.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

I am having similar issue, is it only one side or both? If it one side only, test light bulb and socket.
I replaced my whole back light assembly as it was getting melted on the brake light, but still one side doesnt work.

The issue for me was that no electricity was getting from the battery to the physical brake lightbulbs. This caused all of my brake lights to go out on both sides of my car. Since its only one side for you I would definitely recommend testing the light bulb sockets and where the light bulb assembly plugs into the car (white plastic block with wires coming out of it. Test each little hole that plugs into the light assembly) with a voltmeter before replacing the brake light switch. If you aren't getting any charge and your lightbulbs work fine then I'd look into an issue with the electrical wiring or the brake light switch. I replaced my brake light switch and that solved the whole problem for me, but it seems like you have a different problem than me.

So I solved my issue, I replaced the assembly and one of the wires was not connected correctly too. Goo luck
