I had the throttle software upgrade done on my 01 S60 T5 today. The
dealer stated the ETM doesn't have to be replaced. Am I responsible for
a diagnosis fee to pick up the car?

S60 ETM Diagnosis Charge
Just had the throttle software upgrade done on my 01 S60 T5. The dealer stated the problem is solved, without the need to replace the EMT. Am I responsible for a diagnosis fee.

I was under the impression that this was all part of the 10yr/200K extended ETM warranty. It is part of their devious strategy to d/l new ETM software that makes it more tolerant of intermittent ETM failure codes.
It does NOT solve the premature ETM failures, just disguises them until the failure is catastrophic.
I seriously doubt they ever checked the ETM, except to check any logged error codes, so I would certainly challenge them on this bogus charge. You should visit www.vexedvolvo.org and check the specifics of the ETM warranty documents. Also a call to Volvo Customer Service, expressing steadfast, but polite outrage, will go a long way.
The cheapskates are now going to petty extremes to rip off the customers. Too bad, for a once-proud company.

Thanks Bud, I did not have to pay a diagnosis fee for the software upgrade. I asked when the EMT does fail and the car requires a tow,
Volvo would be responsible for the tow and EMT replacement, and they agreed. I can't believe they won't remedy a known flaw in the car, knowing
when it does happen, I'm going to be one mighty upset customer, not wanting to purchase or recommend a Volvo to anyone.

I'm sorry, I thought you asked: "Am I responsible for a diagnosis fee to pick up the car? "
They supposedly will cover repair and software d/l for 10yr/200K miles. After that, you are on your own for their poorly designed part failures @ $1000 every 50K miles. They certainly DID NOT COVER MY TOWING, and that was to the next town over that had a Volvo dealer.
Of course it's an outrage, and they refuse to redesign the part. That is why I reluctantly dumped my beautiful Black C70, to find a reputable manufacturer that will provide proper recalls on known-defective parts that compromise safety. I was also responsible for my Chiro, my Banker and my Financial Advisor overlooking Volvo as a next vehicle.
If anyone (Volvo) thinks it is not a safety issue, try passing slow traffic on a crowded freeway and have an abrupt ETM failure. Try crossing a seldom traveled mountain pass when it is snowing and have an abrupt ETM failure. Try making a legal left hand turn in front of on-coming traffic and have an abrupt ETM failure. Try putting an inexperienced or timid driver in this "Legendary Safety" vehicle and dump an unexpected ETM failure upon them.
Volvo is just plain WRONG on this.

Hey Bud, Picked up the S60 with 58K on it after the upgrade. I noticed
a tremendous improvement relative to acceleration. Well, that lasted about a week, the car has cold start problems. I'm dumping it, with regrets to whomever buys it.
