Volvo V70 or V70XC/XC70 for a student???

Post by gomeswichal »

I'm heading over to the US to study and would like to have a car while I'm there. I'm from Europe so I really have a thing for station wagons, therefore the cars that I'm the most interested in is of course the Volvo V70 and V70XC/XC70 (model year (2001-2007) and maybe even the V50. I will bring around $5500 which isn't a lot but it should be enough to find one of said cars in a decent shape right? This will also be my first ever car purchase, what should I look for? Did the V70 and XC70 get much better after the face lift(2005) or are they about the same? Considering that the XC70 have an AWD system that might fail and cost a bunch to fix, is the V70 a much better purchase?

That's a tough question as where you will live, how you drive and market conditions will determine which you may choose. I think there is enough experience here to help you find a vehicle when the time comes.

My brother in law was in MA and I helped him look with pictures online and Carfax. When we found something suitable he would take Uber to check the cars out. He has enough knowledge of cars to determine whether on paper it was as good in reality.
Blessings,

Let us know where you will study and we can connect you to cool people in Volvo Valhalla.

There are some cities here in the US where you really don't want a car, any car.

No turbo, no awd V70 would be your lowest maintenance cost option. I've owned a few. They are fine cars.
