This took a surprising amount of digging to find:

A981 from VIN plate = Light Taupe on my 04 V70.

Adding one note

Names of Volvo colour change across markets, so the superior Nautic Blue Metallic Pearl in Noth America might be called Rulus Britanicus Blue in the UK, even if code 417 is both. Color is identical by code, not description

The format is XXX-YZ

XXX IS colour
Y is paint manufacturer code
Z describes nature of paint and solvent.

Can someone tell me if its possible to find interior color just by VIN? The junkyard only gives the VIN on their website and its a long drive away.

I've never heard of a way to determine color codes from the VIN.

I think if you call Volvo with the VIN they can tell you interior color. I am pretty sure I have done that in the past for exactly the reason you state -- long drive to junkyard.

You guys are the best. I called the dealer and some nice guy told me the junkyard one is A981 is "Oak Arena Leather" just from the VIN!

So in USA "Oak Arena Leather" = A981 = Light Taupe
