Exhaust Smell - 93 850 GLT

Hey Guys. New to the board here, but just had a question regarding my '93 850. Whenever the car is warmed up and sitting (idling), I smell exhaust in the car. I doesn't take long for exhaust to reach the cars interior, and way faster if the fan is on. I've taken the car to a Volvo mechanic (not licenced by Volvo, but with 22 yrs experience with Volvos) and he tells me there's nothing wrong. By the way, the car has 135,000 kms (84,000 miles). What is the life expectancy of a factory exhaust? Any suggestions?

1) change rubber seal under hood near intake vent.

2) check and renew vacuum hoses to EGR

3) change aircon to recirculated and check recirc functionality. (the rod can break and leave the vent permanently open)

FYI exhaust is normally not the problem unless bottom has been scraped.
