2004 S80 Will Not Start

Post by dnefores »

I am going bald from pulling my hair out with this car. I have a 2004 S-80 2.9 Liter L6 Non-Turbo. Its started with running really weakly. My son got stranded on the highway because the car would not do over 20 MPH and even with your foot on the floor the RPM's would not go over 2000. We got it home and I put a code reader on it and it gave me a MAP Sensor fault. I found out in another thread that there is no MAP sensor on this car that it has a barometric pressure sensor on the board in the ECU. I pulled the ECU and sent it off for repairs and it came back with the repairs complete. We reinstalled the original, repaired, ECU and the car started for about 2 seconds and then stopped.

I have checked the Fuel pump (Working), The fuel pressure (50-55 PSI), All 6 Coils are firing and it is getting air. All three sides of the Fuel, Air, Fire triangle are working but the damn thing won't turn over.

It will start once for about a second and a half each time, but I must let it sit for at least an hour before I can turn it over again. After the first 1 second run, it cranks but won't turn over. I have tried resetting the disable feature by locking and unlocking the doors 5 times with the key fob, Nothing. I replaced the cam sensor about two months ago so I don't think that's it.

I have checked the oil level, it's fine, not too high not to low. I checked the coolant level also good. I don't know what else to check and I can't afford to keep replacing parts on a guess.

Right now I have a 2000 pound paperweight. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cet a better code reader. Spend the $75.00 for a Vida-DiCE clone. That way you can read all the codes, get the correct codes with detailed descriptions.

I will get one but the problem is since I had the ECU repaired there are no codes and the car won't stay running long enough to trip any.

Look at your throttle body - try shifting in manual and starting in neutral.

Wild theory with very little supporting facts other than my nephew has similar issues and claims he can drive it in manual mode. His codes point to throttle body. I have not looked at his car.
