Gas Smell Volvo 850 GLT

Good morning, I am noticing a gas smell in my garage which is coming from my wife's Volvo.
I read this excellent post by CN90 which lists the 4 potential causes.

I inspected the hose, and the fuel pump access port.

1)The wax sealant is fine, I added some RTV gas resistant compound on top of it, to just ensure a perfect seal. No change in smell

2)Looking at the end of the suspect hose, 9463088 it is not cracked, I can't see the other end.

3)Gasket on fuel pump seal,PN 9447141 I don't know how to tell if this is leaking.

4)I will fill up and see if the inlet hose gasket is leaking.6842188

Is there a way to pinpoint what is causing the leak? Should I remove and replace the hose?

Does the gasket on the fuel pump seal go bad or is it mainly the hose? What about the gasket on the fuel sending unit.?

I would also inspect the fuel filler neck. There is a collar connecting the pipe to the tank which can fail I believe.

Yes, check for any signs of leak on the filler neck. Especially where it goes into the tank. There's a v-band style clamp holding them together that I've seen rust out.

Yup, the first picture. Right where the clamp is that connects the neck to the tank.

Your local garage may have a little hand-held sniffer machine, it was a godsend for pinpointing when I ran into this. Until then, take advantage of your sunroof to vent fumes!

Is it a fresh gas smell? Probably suggested already, check the hoses to the rollover valve to see if they are intact. That was my source.There is either a gasoline leak or fumes from the vent system doing this. Usually pretty easy to find out which. Follow your nose, front or rear of the car? Tank area or otherwise, basically.

I don't notice any smell in the car and zero leaks. The smell is outside the car. Can you point me to where the rollover valve is/

Yes, yes yes yes on the gasket. I've had that fix a gas leak at least twice. They get hard and seal poorly or even crack.

By far the way to go is to pull the cover on the fuel pump and try to get an eyeball on the leak, I'd keep pushing that. And look up from under the car etc.

I don't think the "wax" coating on the wire entry port actually leads to fuel leakage, but rather it breaks down and crumbles away either with age or when there is a leak causing gas to pool up on top of it.
