2002 V70 rear washer not spraying

Post by vavolvo »

I have a 2002 V70 wagon. The rear washer stopped spraying but the wiper arm front wipers and headlight wipers are working fine.
The dealer wanted $150 to look at it and he said "There was no telling how much it would run to fix it."
What can I take a look at to see why it stopped spraying?
I am fairly mechanical so I feel I can fix somthing like this.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

If it is like the 850 and the earlier V70s there is a non-return valve under the right hand side floor in the luggage compartment. It has been known to become blocked.

It's a little different on the later model V70's. What you're looking for is #12 in the diagram below and #13 which sometimes seems to become clogged. You may have to take the roof liner loose from above the rear window to find the clog. I would start with the rear door panel so see if it's cogged at the junction where it sprays out. You might also see if it's disconnected from or is clogged under the tank under the hood. One other thing to check is the pump itself which is located in the tank, I believe (both front and rear share the same tank but not the pump).

Like I said, there are 2 washer pumps on the tank...(both #6 and they are identical for both front and rear). Figure out which one sends the fluid to the rear. If it is bad, the Volvo part number is located accross from #6...9169611. You'll have to buy this part, most likely from the dealer. Shouldn't be that difficult to replace:
