Hi,
I drive a 2004 Volvo XC70. Last week I was driving and the ABS light turned on. I was not on rough roads and there was no noticeable change in the way the car drove. I arrived at my house about 5 minutes later and noticed that the center cap on my front, driver side wheel, along with the center bolt and washer were missing. Because there was no noticeable difference in the way the vehicle drove, I kept taking the car to work on short commutes (about 10 minutes). About three days later the ABS light turned off and I experienced some issues with the vehicle while driving home from work . The car could not get over 20 miles an hour, breaking distance was increased, and the traction control indicator would flash every time I accelerated or engaged the breaks. I turned the car off for a couple of hours and then attempted to drive it home, the ABS light came back on about 1 minute into the trip, and the car drove fine again.
Initially, I thought that the missing center bolt and the ABS issue were unrelated.
Is it possible that losing this bolt caused the wheel speed sensor to shift or become damaged? Is there a different way that losing this bolt could be related to issues with the ABS system?
Thanks!

The missing bolt causes the wheel speed to be misread, which will trigger ABS activity. It has to be bolted in and torqued to correct spec
