Electrical issues

Post by CaptainWeenieWagon »

Hi!
So I had a question regarding this 2004 Volvo V70.
When purchased it had a check stop light everytime I hit the brakes. The side bulbs were not working and then replaced. This did not stop the message but the lights worked. Maybe I missed a clear the message step? Recently after a trip to the meat market for essentials the brake lights remain on. I have checked all fuses and checked the little plastic piece at the pedal and unplugged the unit underneath and the lights remained on. I'm guessing a relay maybe? Anyway, I'm looking for a diagram for the rear compartment if anyone could point me in that direction? Also, but maybe something separate the driver side headlight was replaced same as the brake lights and it has since blown. Thank you for your time and knowledge.

Hi
I’ve got a 2004 S60 with a similar issue.
Stop Brake light message and brake lights don’t work when you step on the pedal.

Mechanics gotten frustrated and seeing if bleeding the brakes helps.

Have you solved your problem yet?

Stop Brake light message.

brake lights don’t work when you step on the pedal.

There’s power to the relay. He’s checked all the fuses and changes the bulbs.

And the 3rd brake light comes on when you hit the pedal.

Not sure where the side brake lights are?..are you referring to the red led side marker lights on later models?

Fairly sure the bottom incandescent brake/stop lights are very basic electronics, there is a switch ontop of the pedal, wires to the back lights via a fuse and shunt resistor .Third brake light is connected to a seperate curcuit.

third brake light working, switch is okay, look at shunt, wires damaged fuses, relay (not sure there is one)

As for the check light, there are no codes that need to be cleared.

If you unplugged the switch and the lights remain on, that would drain your battery real quick?..i would start checking wires for shorts..good luck

Oh yes. So my problem was that some dillhole spliced the spoiler brake line into the main and there was a lot of other splicing going on up front lol.

My brakes wouldn't go off. Your brake lights won't come on? If you have checked all fuses I would replace the brake stop sensor or maybe even the little boot needs replacing or adjusting. I hope this helps!

Located under the steering wheel and connected with a wire harness. I hope this helps. Search: brake stop switch for more videos.

So you think this is a possibility instead of the REM being bad?
