Hey guys, im looking to squeeze a little more performance out of my 99 glt 2.5t (euro built)
im just curious where might be agood place to start.

replaced some hoses, plugs. TCV and cold air intake. been thinking about doing coils. just wondering if a tune would be a good place to start. from what ive read they only run about 4psi, waste gate is set to 1.4 i think

also have had an on an off issue with the car starting and then bogging out almost instantly, following it usually has trouble starting. figured id just throw it in there.

B5452 would be a 4.5 Liter 5 Cylinder with 2 Valves. You rather have a B5254. Nevertheless, most gains will be seen from a 2.5 inch cat back exhaust, a tune by a reliable tuner, a larger Turbo and a downpipe and maybe a good intercooler.

The biggest improvements should be seen from the exhaust, then the tune and if you want to go mild a 15G or 16T or wilder an 18T or 19T Turbo. They will require a good tune and the 18 ot 19T bigger size injectors.

Thank you clemens sorry yes the b5254t, I was looking at some other posts and they almost had me thinking i should stick with the 13g turbo, i am only looking for something around the 250 range, id rather my power be down low as its mostly city driving.

I'm curious on what the limitations on the lp turbo is

bmdubya has a beautiful start->finish build of a '98 V70. There are some differences between it and your '99, but the basics are all there: How to make a 1998 v70 fast

Im questioning if I really want to go through the trouble for a turbo upgrade. As long as your vehicle is brought to Stage 0, the power mods should work. I have a 98 XC and I think I'm gonna keep the 13G. I remember specifically reading a thorough post on MVS that stated 15psi is the maximum safe pressure before problems arise. A 13G from the Volvo factory is normally set at 4-6psi from what I've heard. In another 6 months, I might go through the work of increasing my turbo boost by a couple psi and eventually up to 11 or 12 perhaps. I think for the 13G @15psi, you may want yellow or white injectors.

okay, i didn't realize the 13g was capeable of higher boost pressures like this, which is a main reason I was looking at uprgading to a 15g or 16t

Im not sure what Engine management you have but in 1999 ME7 came into models here, with Turbos.

Unlike the earlier models, the absolute manifold pressure is read by the ECU, so if you start boosting outside the design, the ECU will start limiting boost.

its open loop through 1998 so you can raise boost until your rods bend. In 1999, twisting the wastegate rod by itself does little.

Thank you abscate. DonutV70, I stand corrected.

So fun story. If I Understand The Set-up Correctly, Volvo's already have electronic boost controllers built into the turbo setup and ECU. To raise your boost you just need to reprogram the ecu. No additional modification needed. Unlike japanese turbo setups which are 100% mechanical wastegate driven. Volvo uses a mechanical wastegate with an EBC in-between the vacuum lines. The EBC stays closed and provides no pressure to the WG until the ECU sends a signal to the EBC to open and provide pressure to the WG causing the actuator to engage and dump the exhaust pressure off the turbine. This lowering boost pressure. That's how it basically works.

Now you can also add exhaust, bigger injectors, bigger turbo etc for more horseys but in essence a tune can maximize power on the setup first.
