V70 T to R Engine Swap?

Post by flytieoc »

My wife's daily, a beloved 2005 V70 turbo finally crapped out. It's been burning oil for some time and it is now running about four cylinders. We love the car and the performance. Going to swap in a used motor with lower miles as they are cheap and readily available. Found some R series engines at reasonable pricing.

Can I swap in the R for the T and use the auto trans axle as a direct swap, without much monkey business?

You need to be more specific.

Is the 52 vin R series engine from an auto trans car a direct plug and play into a 59 vin Turbo engine with an auto trans?

No changes. Bolt in the motor, plug in the wiring harnesses and computers and plumb in the cooling exhaust.

Is this that simple or are there modifications to the host car that need to be made?

I think the short answer is no. You will need computer programming and more.

For just a repair. There are better choices then a B5254T4 (52 R). Without software and turbo swap, the B5254T4 would have less power the the B2524T2 (59).

I would consider swaping the B2524T2 RN with a B2524T3 (68) RNC engine. Forged Crank. Stronger rods, graphite coated Silicon-Aluminum alloy pistons, better coolant circulation then a RN block. Both have the same Bore, stroke and compression ratio. You would need to use a RNC intake manifold. Some of the RNC engines have the front motor mount higher up but the bolt holes for the RN style front motor mount are still there on the RNC block.
