Timing belt “tool” kobalt 30mm box open wrench

Post by abscate »

I had an epic timing belt struggle with the T5 and when I finally conquered the user error I had retimed the engine about 16 times. I had it down to 8 minutes

Here is my favorite tool, a simple Kobalt 12 point 30 mm box/open end

https://www.amazon.com/Kobalt-337678-12 ... B0052EEOWE

About $20 through the Amazon MVS link of course

The 30mmm open end fits the crank pulley nut, so you can turn the engine over from up top! Put your finger through the closed end so if it slips, you don’t drop it.

Best part - not strictly kosher. The box end makes an almost perfect radius tool to tension the belt down to yeh water pump, where tiny can slide the belt onto it as the last step.

Technically Volvo says you do the water pump second to last and the tensioner last, but creativity is the hemoglobin of a small mind.
