CCM/ECC not working. No control of damper motors. AC ON-button blinking Topic is solved

Volvo S70 2000
Vents only blew hot air so I spent some time yesterday trying to fix it without success. I took out both blender motors and directional motor and they run fine on the bench in both directions when I put power on them. However, whatever knob I turn on the ecc control panel does nothing. No motor turns. The AC ON button blinks green constantly. I tried resetting/calibrating the motors using vida but it immediately goes to "Not Completed". Error codes are only "calibration can not be performed" (something like that). I went to the junkyard and bought a new control panel and also a cabin temp sensor but the problem remains. What the heck is going on? Does anyone have experience with this kind of problem? Jimmy57??

Now that is weird. The fact that it only blows hot air would suggest the blend motor is not being activated. But is you manually tested it's limits then that should be it, it should work. Then you change the position of the direction switches, can you see if the blend motor works in both directions?

As to hot air only, that would also possibly mean the cold air flap motor is not working. Again easiest to see servo motor to see operating. Check to see the flap has not stuck closed, and also the filter is clean.

A faulty cabin sensor would potentially cause the ECC not to be able to check the cabin temp. Again you can check that wither or both the motors work but leaving the EC connected and removing the sensor from behind the dash to check that the little fan is working. These can jam over time with a build up of environmental crap/hair/dust. I clean them carefully with IPA, cotton buds and small artists brushes. I then test the fan works with a 9V battery and a couple of wires.

yes the motors work fine on the bench. I also took them off but left them hanging connected in the car. The blender motor, recirc motor and directional motor is not moving when i turn the knobs on the ecc panel. On the bench they move fine in both directions. Driving me nuts! HEEEEEEELP
EDIT: and i checked the temp senbsor. According to vida it reads correct temp and the fan is working. also tried with another one from the bone yard.

ONE lamp on the ECC panel is blinking green. It is the AC on button. The only thing that works is the fan speed slider control. I can also turn the compressor on/off. Thats it, but i cant control any of the damper motors.

Been a while, but is there perhaps a separate fuse somewhere for the servo motor operation which allows the ECC to flash but not actually operate? This is where we need someone more familiar with the electrical side.

Have you confirmed the ECC replacement is the same model as your original. These units seem to have an endless number of part numbers, but I think there may have been a change physically in around 98-99, but don't quote me on that!

Last thing. Have you done a hard system re-set? The detaching the battery cables and touching them together?

yes I done all that. hard reset as you call it, fuses (the ones i could find), no fault codes. panel came out of same model car same year. exact same behaviour, just the ac on lamp blinking. I even went to the junk yard again this morning and bought a new directional motor but no cigar. I actually saw the directional motor move a little bit this morning when i played around with it. but after that nada. frikkin volvo crap. Like you say there might be more fuses or relays buried somewhere who knows. Most annoying fault I ever had to deal with.

You need software to read the codes and tell you what’s faulting. It’s likely the fault is shutting down signals from the control Unit, sort of like certain engine codes turn off boost

Yes - go to the ECC module (?) and you should be able to see the faults - I don't know VIDA that well but my AUTEL actually reads these same VOLVO error codes for my ECC (I have a recirc door that occasionally sticks and throws a code)

That's the annoying part, how to fix if there are no codes. All this crap started when i ran the damper motor calibration thingy in Vida...

There is of course a small chance i got a used one that was also broken. Whats the failure rate on these control panels?
