turning off the oil change light

Post by azureblue »

2001 V70 T5
I know I know "Just google it". "read the archives."
I have found no less than 4 ways to do it. And none work. I followed every one to the letter.

Ideas? Anybody got the real procedure? Besides VIDA of course?

What do you mean by oil change light ? The red oil lamp light is a warning light for low engine oil pressure - engine must not be started or driven. Or you rather mean the 'Time for Regular Maintenance' message ?

For my 2001 V70 T5, the following works after an oil change (when service lamp on):
1) Press and hold odometer reset button/stalk.
2) Turn ignition key to run (not to start).
3) After Service Reminder Lamp flashes three plus times, release odometer stalk.
4) Turn ignition key to off.
5) Start car and confirm no Service Reminder Lamp on.

Sometimes it's finicky and I have to do it a few times...damn old car.

Good luck.

yes. the service light. the oil change light. Not the low on oil light. The oil change light that comes on every 3K miles. I wanted to reset it after I did my oil change....

Here is what doesn't work:
1 - with ignition off, press and hold the trip odo "reset" button, and turn ignition to I
2 - Hold button for 10 seconds until light flashes
3 - A tone will sound and the light will go off
4 - turn off ignition

1 - Same until step 2 - change to: turn key to II When trip odo resets to 0 the orange warn light in the center will flash
2 - release trip odo button.
3 - turn key to off

1 - press and hold odo reset , turn key to "run" (I guess they mean III)
2 - hold button for 10 seconds, release button, light will flash
3 - a tone will be heard then service light will go off
4 - turn off ignition key

1 - get in car, shut the door
2 - put key in ignition, turn key to I
3 - Push in odo reset and hold it in.
4 - turn key to II
5 - wait a few seconds, then the service light will blink
6 - let go of odo reset button and start car
7 - run car for a few minutes then turn off car.

I have gotten the tone, i have never gotten the triangle warning light, the service / oil light has blinked every time..
And the sucker is still on..

Ok, I'll try this one :-). If this doesn't work, I will resort to gris gris and maybe burning a candle or two

Yeah it looks like it - but what makes my car so different? I mean, if all these ways won't kill the light then what profile for my car for VIDA will work?

Worst-case scenario...cut a square piece of black electrical tape and cover the light.

You can do it in ViDA, but what’s always worked for me is
  • KP1 (key position 1)
  • Press & hold odometer reset button
  • While still holding odo button, turn to KP2
  • Continue holding reset button until yellow triangle (!) flashes
  • Release reset button
I can’t recall ever having an audible alert signifying it’s been cleared. Might be a feature on newer cars?
