No Reverse
So my 2002 xc 70 drives forward, in reverse transmission has a winning sound, and won’t engage, and have a grating sound from reverse to park,, I replaced the position sensor, but that didn’t help, what else could be the problem.

- Do you have > 200K miles?
- "No Reverse" happened to my 1998 S70 GLT at 190K, the trans went bad at that mileage. I sold that car.

Do all the forward gears work okay? For reverse the C2 direct clutch is applied, B3 low and reverse brake clutch is applied and the 1-2 and Reverse brake (B5) is applied. 5th gear uses the C2 direct clutch so if 5th is working okay then the problem isn't the C2 direct clutch. If 1st and 2nd are working okay then it's not the 1-2 and Reverse Brake clutch. The B3 low and reverse brake clutch is only applied for reverse so if 1st, 2nd and 5th are working fine then the problem points to the B3 clutch.Rickeycupid wrote: ↑01 Jul 2020, 16:55 No reverse on 2002 V70 XC, vehicle has a grating sound when moving shifter from reverse to park, Positioning sensor has been changed with no change, is there something else I should be looking for
Has there been any work done to the valve body? One of the two seals between the valve body and transmission case is the B3 supply so if the seal fell out during valve body replacement, which does happen then you wouldn't have reverse.
Did this problem happen all of sudden or were there some issues before this happened?

Ugh. For the record: 02 AWD and 98 FWD are different transmissions. Comparing those two at some particular mileage is irrelevant. Moreover the 98 FWD transmission is very durable and it is rare for one to go out with so few miles.

I have owned a lot of different cars.
By the time the Reverse is bad, the trans usually goes south very quickly, thus my comment above.
