SC-900 Radio

SC-900 head unit in good condition. Tested and working great! The CD changer is working, but not playing discs. Not sure what's up with it. Otherwise, AM/FM and cassette work perfectly. All back lights work as well.

It is one of 2 things which normally causes the discs not to play.

1) The laser is dirty. I did a write up and re-linked it below:

2) The other issue is that they are prone to dragging in 2 discs and getting stuck.

Power up the player and eject the cassette first. Then remove the top plate carefully as per cleaning process above, and gently pull the drawer out as far as it goes. Then look down inside the unit and see if there is a disc stuck there. With careful use of a screwdriver you can usually push the disc out by the center hole. You may have to put a little thin card below the disk to stop is catching on the little protrusions on the drawer base.

When you connect it back up you may get a disc error if you put the cassette back in. Eject it again and re-insert and it should clear the code and then work ok.

Ah, it's probably the second issue. I cleaned the lens on my SC-901 when it stopped reading discs. Works great now! Well, occasionally it'll be a little stubborn, but it eventually works. This SC-900 clicks a few times when it tries to read a disc, then spits the cartridge back out.
