2001 S80 T6 hard shift when hot

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2001 S80 T6 hard shift when hot

Post by sver »

I have a 2001 S80 T6 that runs great but when it gets really hot, it has issues shifting 2nd to 3rd. I put an oil cooler on and that practically eliminated it, but when I drive it for 45+ minutes in 90 degree heat I can feel it shift hard every now and then. When it is cool outside it shifts great. I don't have any codes logged.

I am thinking this might be the solenoids. How hard are those to replace? The car has 150k miles and probably not worth a new transmission. I was hoping to do this myself.

A TransGo Shift Kit could solve it. Neither hard nor expensive.

I put in the TransGo Shift Kit and have been driving for a few weeks. When I get a chance, I plan to go back to the old springs. It drove and shifted much better with the original springs.
